1. Maintenance Release

This update is being distributed to all users with active maintenance agreements. It provides several significant new features and bug fixes, many of which were introduced in minor release versions 4.51 through 4.55. Minor releases are generally only distributed to users who had either expressed an immediate interest in the feature or were experiencing a particular problem addressed by the release. Please refer to the dbMASS v4.5 ReadMe notes for discussion of these items. Here are the modifications provided by this specific release.

  1. Copy Entry Using an Existing ID

Through the use of the dbMASS copy command one can create a new entry that is an exact copy an existing entry. The new entry will only differ from the original by how it is identified. With the Configuration and Effectivities Module (CEM) entries are identified by the unique combination of Id, Configuration and Effectivity. Without the CEM, only the Id is used to uniquely identify the entry. So, without the CEM, a new Id must be created for the new entry. With the CEM, an existing Id can be used, however, the combination of the Id, Configuration and Effectivity must be unique to the new entry.

A limitation was identified with the CEM that would only allow the new entry Id to be either the original entry's Id or a new Id which was not previously defined. The condition where one wants to copy an entry and use a different Id that already is used by another entry was not properly supported. This limitation has been fixed so that the new entry Id can be an existing entry Id as long as the combination of the Id, Configuration and Effectivity are unique.

2. New Features

  1. New Key Support

There have been increasing problems with the original keys required to run dbMASS and they therefore are being phased out. This new version of dbMASS supports a new style of key that will also be used for the dbMASS Windows version when it is released. The new key selected has many new capabilities which we hope to take advantage of in the future. For now, however, it will work seamlessly as it is used to replace the original keys.

In order to run dbMASS with the WIBU Systems key a new driver must be installed. To install, download and run the following file onto your PC:

http://www.griftech.com/downloads/wibu/user/WkRt-US.exe

This link will initiate downloading the WkRt-US.exe file. When asked "Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer?" you can select the [Open] button to automatically start the WIBU-KEY Setup Utility. Follow the instructions given on the screen. When asked to "Select the WIBU-KEY components you would like to install:" Uncheck all of the options. None of these additional components are needed at this time. Continue with the installation by selecting the [Next] button. You can skip reading the ReadMe file at the end of the installation.

Uninstall the old NT driver for the original key. The old NT driver is easily removed by locating the UNINSTAL.INF file found in the dbMASS4\NTdriver folder. Simply right mouse click on this file and select "install" from the pop-up menu.

That should do it. Contact i.e.Solutions if you experience any problems. Also, remember to return the original key to i.e.Solutions to avoid being billed for a second license.
